San Diego Summer Fun at Balboa Park & Panama 66

The summer heat is hitting the Blake household hard.  We are so eager to use our A/C and pool, but these crazy kids need more and need it NOW! I have exhausted my summer checklist and mommy can play so many board games until my patience has run out.  The Balboa Park Explorer Pass solved all of our problems.  Kids were able to learn and have fun, and I got to cool off in the museums.  The Pass includes general admission to 17 museums and while I figured we could quickly spend the day going in and out of several, after two hours in ONE museum, I quickly realized that this was the best investment for our family.

The kids were having way too much fun to realize that they were learning too.  We walked a lot, played a lot, giggled at our crazy hands on experiments.  The kiddos even learned about Gogli bodies-and thought that was the coolest lesson EVER!  It was close to noon when we realized that we were all starving (actually it was the whining of 8 kids that made us rush to lunch).

Panama 66 is located right next to the Museum of Art and a short walk from the Ruben H. Fleet Science Center, where we had spent our morning.  At noon, we meandered to Panama and found a large enough table to fit our group.  Kids ate PB&J or Nutella and Banana Sandwiches, while the adults noshed on sandwiches and salads.  Beer and Sangria were consumed (I had the Modern Times Lomaland and Hubby had the Fall Plenty for All. Other mamas had sangria).  To top off the hot day, Viva Pops were being sold at the grab and go at Panama 66, just outside of the restaurant.  With flavors like fresh Strawberry and Blueberry Lemonade, they are perfect treats for a steamy summer day.
To walk off our full bellies, we hobbled over to the House of China.  For a small donation, a nice gentleman will write the kiddos name in Chinese and offer a steamed dumpling.  We played a bit afterwards and discussed future museum trips (because this day was AWESOME).  The littlest little had had enough and our day came to an end.  With exactly one month until summer vacation is over, I am thinking we will be spending a lot of time exploring at Balboa Park.
