One of my favorite things to do on our day off (Sunday or Monday) is to take a road trip up the hill to Julian, about 45 minutes from home. We call it our road trip up the hill. When we take our time, our one way trip can take hours. Casually stopping at the wineries and breweries along the way so that the babes can stretch their legs and we can wet our palate. But once we arrive, we are famished. Filling our bellies at Julian Grille warms our chilly bones and satiate our cravings for apple pie, without having to wait in the crazy pie lines.
We stretch our legs walking up and down Main Street, window shopping, taking pony rides, catching cowboy skits and heading into the Candy Shop to stock up on snacks for the ride home. By this time, we are (somewhat) across the street from Blue Door winery who specializes in Red Wine. The kids run around, we sip on some wine.
After a few hours of exploring the town, it becomes that time to begin our venture down the hill…..but our last stop is EVERYONE’s favorite stop. We are simply spoiled when we come here. Max has hung bird houses, I get to pick pears with the owners, Bo plays with the pup and Tyson gets some guy time in. And we indulge!!!! At Nickel Beer Company, it is super casual, plenty of play room for kids and adults. Bring your own snacks or food, but they do sell some AMAZING pickled items, if you must get hungry here. I mean they are crazy good……
Try the Apple Pie Ale, Devil’s Copper, Gowabunga IIPA and the Jalapeno Back Country Gold. Some of my FAVES!
Here is the latest beer dinner at their other pub O’brien’s
